Gravenhurst is lucky to have a community that supports the Committee’s efforts and initiatives. The Committee would like to commend the following for their support. Gravenhurst Public Library Staff and volunteers, in conjunction with the Town, continue to work to improve the building and enhance their knowledge of the challenges that face the accessible community. TD Canada Trust In the last five years, TD Canada Trust has made substantial improvements to the building that has made it more user-friendly and accessible to the entire community. Terry's Your Independent Grocer A great example of how an existing building can be renovated to be more user- friendly and accessible. Sobey's, Canadian Tire, Shopper's Drug Mart These new stores are excellent examples of how new buildings are laid out with the accessible community in mind. While it is usually easier to build something new with accessible features than it is to renovate an existing building, the businesses throughout Gravenhurst have shown their commitment to this important sector of our population.
If you are aware of a property that has had work done to become accessible, please let the Committee know so their support can also be shared on our site. If you have comments, suggestions or concerns about areas for improvement in our community, please contact the GAAC to share your input!
Are you interested in having a site assessment conducted? In addition to municipal properties and buildings, the Gravenhurst Accessibility Advisory Committee is willing to provide suggestions for accessibility improvements to any business owner, community group, landlord or organization. While the Committee members are not trained professionals, they may be able to offer insight into improvements that would make your property more user-friendly to the accessible community. Should you choose to undertake any improvements based on the GAAC's suggestions, please contact the Town of Gravenhurst Building Department to ensure the proper process is followed. As part of the Town of Gravenhurst's commitment to accessibility, the Site Assessment Program was developed to review various municipal properties for accessibility challenges and to make suggestions on ways to correct deficiencies.
