It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Gravenhurst. We are so fortunate to enjoy an abundance of pristine lakes and a natural beauty that is difficult to match. Gravenhurst is a community rich in heritage, with the old and new blending together to form a diversified way of life. It reflects our lifestyles, values, and ideals. Communities in Bloom, to us, is more than just flowers. It is about partnerships, volunteers, community skills, energy and resources, environmental stewardship, and the ability to apply them in ways that achieve positive change and civic pride in our community. I have witnessed many changes in Gravenhurst over the past few years, and I am confident that the improvements, made by our dedicated volunteers, have increased the standard of living for all. We thank the Communities in Bloom program for this achievement. We are proud to be the homeport of the R.M.S. Segwun, the oldest operating steamship in North America. Gravenhurst was the birthplace of Dr. Norman Bethune, and our more than century old Opera House still presents terrific shows year round. Each summer we enjoy free outdoor concerts at the "Music On The Barge", located in Gull Lake Rotary Park.We take pride in the partnerships between the Provincial, Federal, and Municipal governments who worked with the private sector in the development of the first class Muskoka Wharf project. It includes many public park areas, walking paths, a waterfront boardwalk, a themed park, as well as private shops, beautiful condominiums, and restaurants. It is also the home of our Muskoka Boat & Heritage Centre, a world class attraction. Future challenges will be met with the same determination and enthusiasm as in past years, with a strong show of community spirit so common to Gravenhurst. |
