The Act allows the public access to government held information while at the same time protects personal information held by government organizations and protects individuals with a right of access to their own personal information. Certain records of the municipality are considered completely public and are accessible at all times (that the Clerk’s Office is open) without proceeding under a formal request as noted below. Such documents include: by-laws, agendas, minutes, and financial statements for the corporation. Requests for information under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act must be in writing and accompanied with a $5.00 application fee.
