Planning Department

Welcome to the Town of Gravenhurst Planning Department.  We are a small team of professionals who are responsible for:

  • providing professional land use advice to Council, members of the public, and those interested in investing in our community as well as other agencies and stakeholders
  • developing and implementing land use policies, regulations and approvals for the Town
  • accepting and reviewing all new development related applications including zoning amendments, severances, minor variances, site plan agreements as well as deemings, unopened road & shore road closings, and the disposal of surplus lands

The Planning Department is also charged with balancing the needs of year round residents with the needs of seasonal residents among an overall goal of  protecting our pristine natural environment.  We ensure that the planning process incorporates public and stakeholder involvement and balances the needs of numerous parties through the land development process.  Our goal is to make Gravenhurst an even better place to live and visit by making the Town a safe and well built community.

The following Committees of Council are directly linked to the Planning Department:

  • Committee of Adjustment
  • Environmental Advisory Committee
  • Heritage Committee
