Fire Department Teams Up with Two Local Stores to Promote Fire Prevention
Hands on Demonstrations & Fire Safety Awareness Saturday October 14th

Gravenhurst, ON - It’s Fire Prevention Week October 8 to 14th, and the Gravenhurst Fire Department is partnering with Gravenhurst Home Hardware and Gravenhurst Canadian Tire to help promote fire safety, escape plans and ways that you can avoid a potential disaster in your home.

“Come visit with us at both stores on Saturday October 14th, between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm, and learn what it takes to keep yourself and your family as safe as possible in a fire emergency,” said Robert King, fire prevention officer. “A small investment of your time now could help you survive a fire in your home,” added King.  Firefighters will be on hand to discuss two of the most important messages in fire prevention and safety;

Every Second Counts - literally speaking. In today’s homes with the synthetic materials and lightweight building construction techniques, you and your family may have as little TWO minutes to safely escape in the event of a fire emergency!

Plan Two Ways Out is part of your families practiced home escape plan. When your working smoke alarm that is less than 10 years old activates, everyone should know two ways out of every room, typically a door and a window

The public will learn how to safely use a portable fire extinguisher, and see a live demonstration of what to do and what not to do if a pot on your stove catches fire.  For each family that learns how to use a portable fire extinguisher, firefighters will provide a voucher for use in purchasing something related to fire safety in each respective store!

“Smoke and CO alarms SAVE LIVES!  There is no single more important aspect of your house that needs maintaining than your smoke and CO alarms.  We support Fire Prevention Week to help save lives.  In countless house fires, injury and death is avoided due to the family having had working alarms.  We are honoured to have the GFD on-site October 14th at Gravenhurst Home Hardware to educate and demonstrate the continual need to protect your family and home from fire and carbon monoxide.  Join us for a fun day and come see some of your local ‘heroes’ in action,”  said Ian McNaughton, Gravenhurst Home Harwarde, owner and local firefighter.

“Canadian Tire Gravenhurst is proud to partner with the Gravenhurst Fire Department for Fire Prevention week.  Firefighters will be present to assist customers with our products that may help save lives.  Yours in safety and community,” Kevin and Natalie Smith – owners Canadian Tire Gravenhurst.

Working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and a practiced home escape plan save lives!
