Online Applications Now Available
GRAVENHURST, ON  – The Gravenhurst Fire Department is kicking off its annual recruiting effort this week, looking to recruit new volunteer firefighters to help fill its ranks.
“Each spring, we begin our focused recruiting efforts to entice local residents to step forward and ‘Answer the Call’ as the saying goes,” said Fire Chief Larry Brassard. “Currently, we have a need to add about 10 firefighters to our station rosters in Gravenhurst which includes our Kilworthy and Ryde fire stations,” he added.
The department is appealing to men and women over the age of 18 who are in good physical condition to step forward. “We need all types of people to fill our rosters, but being team oriented and being willing and able to learn new skills is important,” said Brassard. The department provides full training, all protective equipment, uniforms and insurance coverage as well as the opportunity to serve the community in a real and tangible way.
“This year we’ve made applying to the department easier than ever before. Interested applicants can simply go to the Towns website, and under the Fire Department tab click the “Join our Team” button.  An electronic version of the departments ‘Applicant Information Guide’ is available on the website as is an application form that can either be submitted electronically, or downloaded and filled out the ‘old fashioned way’.  Applications are also available at any of the Towns Fire Stations during the evening when training sessions are underway, or at the Harvie Street office during regular business hours. “We really encourage people to come in and chat with our firefighters about what being a volunteer firefighter is all about, it’s a fantastic way to serve,” said the Chief.
Social media platforms such as Twitter, YouTube and Facebook are also available and will be used to promote interest in becoming a firefighter in the coming weeks.  Applications for the fall recruit training class are being accepted through June 15th.
