Training Division - Town of Gravenhurst

Gravenhurst Fire Truck

Training Division

Training is at the heart of all the services we provide. Each year, our fire fighters spend hundreds of hours training on a broad range of fire related topics such as:

  • apparatus responseGravenhurst fire fighters practicing their vehicle extrication skills
  • pumping operations
  • search and rescue
  • forcible entry
  • ventilation
  • extrication techniques
  • haz-mat response
  • emergency first-aid
  • water and ice rescue
  • water supply

Much of the training we provide is "in-house", but staff also attends a variety of seminars and educational opportunities at other locations in the province, including the Ontario Fire College, and throughout Canada and the United States.

Also, Lieutenants, Captains and Officers receive additional training to their regular training that is intended to meet the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Ministry of Labour for those persons who perform the duties of a "supervisor".

All our training is coordinated by a career training officer who ensures that the training that is delivered meets the high standards expected of fire service professionals in Ontario.
