How do I place a hold on library materials?

  • A hold is a reservation for a particular item in the library's collection.
  • You must have a valid library card to place a hold.
  • You may place a hold in person at the library, by phone or through your online account.
  • When the item becomes available, library staff will contact you by phone.
  • At that point, you are given 4 days to visit the library and pick up the item being held.

How do I place a hold using my account online?

To place a hold:

  1. Find the material you would like using the online catalogue
  2. From the details page of the material you want, select request item.
  3. Type in your entire 14 digit library card number
  4. Type in your PIN (the last 4 digits of your phone number)
  5. Click request on the request confirmation page.
  6. Choose return to searching or logout and return.

You will be phoned when the item is available.

How do I cancel a hold using my account online?

To cancel a hold:

  1. Select the my account tab at the top of the page from the online catalogue
  2. Type in your entire 14 digit library card number
  3. Type in your PIN (the last 4 digits of your phone number)
  4. Click on the holds tab at the top of the page
  5. Select the item you would like to delete
  6. Click the cancel request

If a book or other material is not available at the Gravenhurst Library, is it possible to obtain it?

Yes! Gravenhurst Library is a member of the province-wide interlibrary loan service and can request materials from other library systems in and outside of Ontario. Contact library staff for assistance.
