 2018 Casting Announcement!

 2018 Summer Season Casting Graphic

Here is your first look at the faces who will be appearing in our 84th Season of Summer Theatre in Muskoka!

Message from the Artistic Director, Dave Campbell

Our payoff for surviving the harsh Winter are the long and glorious days of the Muskoka Summer. Join us on a warm day or a bright night, as we open our season with Souvenir, a comic and touching true story about a woman so dedicated to the art of music that despite being “the worst singer in the world” she becomes the darling of the New York City elite. Following the tremendous success of Swing, we bring back our live six-piece band with the edgy and sophisticated Broadway Hit, The World Goes ‘Round, featuring a brilliant cast of Singers and Dancers. And finally, take a trip to Greater Tuna, Texas, where even the Lions Club is too Liberal! Delighting audiences around the world for over 30 years, this is a tour de force for two actors playing over 20 roles! Summer is fleeting, why not consider a Flex Pack so you don’t miss a single moment of this terrific season!

Synopsis

This true life story has sparked books, plays and feature films all with rave reviews!

Most people would say they can’t sing, many won’t sing, and of course all us love to sing alone in the shower! Imagine how someone, entirely tone deaf, becomes the toast of New York.  This is the impossible, preposterous, and yet 100% true story of Florence Foster Jenkins, a city socialite who climbed to the heights of the operatic repertoire while rarely having sung a note on key. Don your earplugs and follow her hysterical and ultimately triumphant journey in this rollicking off Broadway Hit.

Directed by the legendary Sheila McCarthy, one of Canada’s most decorated actors, having won 2 Genies, 2 Geminis, 2 Dora Awards and most recently an ACTRA Award for Best Outstanding Female Performance among multiple nominations!

"Life holds up a funhouse mirror to art in SOUVENIR, Stephen Temperley's wildly funny and surprisingly touching portrait of real-life musical laughingstock Florence Foster Jenkins… a memorable illustration of the real limits of self-perception, and of the purely theatrical magic that can turn the tinniest ear to gold." —Time Out NY.

Synopsis

They say it’s healthy to laugh at yourself… but it’s really much more fun to laugh at others! Greater Tuna takes a magnifying glass to small town life. For everyone who ever watched their grandmother peek from behind a curtain to see who was “goin’ to town”, heard a soft click as they realized someone was eavesdropping, or politely listened to something entirely shocking from someone they previously assumed was sane… this play goes a little further. Two brilliant actors play 20 characters at
breakneck speed. Hold onto your seat… this is fast-paced, side-splitting, small town fun!

Directed by national treasure Maja Ardal, former Artistic Director of YPT in Toronto, and Multiple Dora nominee and winner.

The audience…all but exploded the theatre with laughter.’
