Canadian Choral Panorama

Saturday, June 3rd
Doors 6:30 PM | Show 7:30 PM

Tickets $10
(General Admission Seating)

* PLEASE NOTE *
This event is being held at the Muskoka Dicsovery Centre / Muskoka Boat & Heritage Centre (NOT at the Opera House)

A tour through Canadian History and Music.

Our "Canadian Choral Panorama" program will be a dramatic musical view of Canadian history starting with First Nations drummers and speakers laying the groundwork for a story about Canada which includes early Canadian music giving way to the arrival of the Europeans and Americans and blending into a concert of Canadian music from across the nation.

The choirs will be the Orillia Vocal Ensemble and chamber choir in addition to participants from other regional choirs such as the "Muskoka Men of Song" and the Elderberries. Accompaniment will be by a string quartet and piano with special arrangements commissioned for this important occasion.

The concerts in Gravenhurst and Orillia will feature a guest vocal soloist, Angela Nussey and Liz Hurtubise-Anderson and a final inspiring piece will involve all of the performers. These concerts will be a fitting and inspiring tribute to the 150th birthday of Canada.

"This is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime community concert opportunity."
- Roy Menagh, Artistic Director

Whiskey Jack:
Stories & Songs of Stompin' Tom!

Friday, June 9th
Doors 7:00 PM | Show 8:00 PM
Tickets $35 (regular) | $20 (student)

Since 1977, Whiskey Jack has become one of the most celebrated Roots / Country / Bluegrass bands in Canadian music history, with: five critically acclaimed recordings, nationally charted radio hits and multiple Country Music Awards nominations.

The band toured Canada extensively between 1977 and 1987, appearing at festivals and concerts from coast to coast.

As well as being regular guests of Morningside and Variety Tonight on CBC Radio, they were stars of The Tommy Hunter Show for five years in the 1980s, and made numerous appearances on such shows as The Alan Thicke ShowFire on the Mountain, Ralph Emory, and The Nashville Network, thus earning them the description as the most televised bluegrass/ acoustic country band in Canada.

They recorded with the likes of Nashville legend, Mac Wiseman, Al Cherny of Country Hoedown fame, and world-famous fiddle player Graham Townsend.

In 1993, Stompin' Tom Connors teamed with Whiskey Jack to record one of his come-back albums, "Dr. Stompin' Tom Connors eh?" (featuring the celebrated "Gumboot Clogaroo"), followed by a triumphant national tour.  2004 saw them on the road again with this Canadian icon. The tour culminated in a sold-out show at Massey Hall, and an unprecedented performance on the Conan O'Brien Show.

Whiskey Jack don't just "sing" the Stompin' Tom hits, they "perform" them, much like the man himself. Even the classics like Bud The Spud and Sudbury Saturday Night are performed in a polished and highly professional manner.  Their interpretations are genuine, having performed them with Tom hundreds of times over the years.

Don't miss this incredible evening filled with songs and stories of the man himself, one of Canada's most recognized icons, Mr. Stompin' Tom Connors.
