Town of Gravenhurst and Gravenhurst YMCA Announcement

December 16, 2011

The Town of Gravenhurst and YMCA are pleased to announce that the building will be open to the public on Monday, Dec 19th.  All scheduled fitness classes and children’s programs will also be available.  The pools remain under construction and more details will follow.  We encourage the community to stay active over the holidays and come participate in our many programs.

Winter/Spring Brochures & Registration will be available beginning Dec 19th.

On behalf of the Members of Council and Staff, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the website for our Project known as the Centennial Centre Expansion & new Aquatic Facility.

 

This website will keep residents and visitors updated on the progress of the Project.  Council encourages you to visit this site regularly and share in the excitement as the design starts to take shape and the planning for construction begins.  Watch our new facility take shape!

What’s New 

September 2011

Phase II – Aquatic Facility
Building is enclosed
.
Lockers and change room hardware being installed.
Change room flooring being installed.

Mechanical and plumbing work progressing.

Estimate pool construction completed by end of October 2011.

 

Landscape Tender - Fowler Construction - ongoing and expect to be completed mid October 2011.

Skatepark Tender - New Line Skate Parks - site elevations completed and assembling equipment. Estimated completion by the end of October 2011.

July 2011
Phase 1 – Arena Side  - received public occupancy in July 2011.
Arena is open and welcoming 2011 Hockey Schools and private rentals.
Summer Day Camp is operating out of the arena Terry Fox auditorium.
Phase II – Pool side – construction estimated completion date is the end of September 2011.
Skate park construction estimated to begin in late August 2011
 

March 2011
Date for permanent power switch over will be on Monday March 7, 2011.

Arena side is moving along on schedule, right now they are at approximately 90% complete for priming, painting is 30-40%, and tiling is at 60-70%.

Pool Side - currently in construction for roofing above pools, 95% structural steel complete, exterior  windows have been started.  They are well underway to having enclosed by the end of March.

Ice Season completed by - March 18th.
Trailers (change rooms/washrooms) will be removed leaving one single washroom for Community Services staff.

Dalton advises that they are still on schedule to have the arena side complete by Mid April, providing no hold ups on ordering./changes for products.

Dalton will be booking the appropriate inspections as we near the completion of the arena side to have everything in place and ready for summer ice users.
September/October/November 2010
Arena side

- mechanical and electrical rough ins are in progress.

- interior walls mostly up

- roofing underway

- windows beginning

- exterior masonry has begun

 

 Pool side

- foundations almost complete

- floors  being poured

- ground floor walls underway

- structural steel going up

- 2nd floor core slabs - week of Nov. 22nd

- timberwork will be started shortly (late week of Nov 22nd)

- underground pipe completed
- walls for  both pools are poured

 

August 2010
    warm side foundations ongoing
    begin underground drains in basement of warm side
    pour street light bases in parking lot
    Pave north end of parking lot
    build walls for "olympia room"
    start masonry walls for dressing rooms
    begin steel erection of dressing rooms
    begin backfill of warm side. 

July 2010
    Formwork of warm side ongoing
    pave south end of parking lot and driveway.
    Complete hookups to restart arena.
    install and upgrade storm system for north end of parking lot
    install piping for parking lot lights
    prep and grade north end of parking lot for asphalt
    pour curbs and sidewalks at north end of parking lot 

June 2010
    Shoring of hill at northwest corner
    complete reinforcement of existing roof structure, and finish painting
    complete sprinkler rough-in of arena
    underground drains...cold side
    Site service: remove all parking lots @ home building centre, dig new retention ponds, install underground piping for storm system, grade prep parking lots and driveway.
    set up temporary change rooms
    install low -e ceiling in arena
    completion of foundation excavation in pool areas 
   
build hoarding wall at north end of arena and make weather tight
    install dewatering system
    Begin formwork @ warm side
    Install new sewer service to project
    begin sidewalks and curbs for south parking lot  

May 2010
    Continue excavation of cold side foundation
    Continue with forming, rebar, and pouring of foundations cold side
    Continue with reinforcement of existing structure
    demo at Home Building centre
    mobilize site services contractor, and begin removing retention pond
    Begin painting reinforced roof structure
    Begin rough in of sprinkler system in arena
    mobilize plumbers and begin underground drains on cold side
    Begin excavation of pool (warm) side  

April 2010
    Reinforce existing arena structure
    Build temporary wall on east side of arena
    Demolition of dressing rooms and TFA
    Begin excavation of new dressing room areas 
    Begin footings for dressing rooms 

 

March 2010
    Remove arena stuff
    Asbestos abatement
    Disconnect services
    Locate all existing services on the property
    Build temporary wall on east side
    Mobilize welders for reinforcement of existing roof
    Mobilize demolition crew and fence

February 2010 - Pre-Qualification Package for sub trades and services posted on Town web site,  Gravenhurst Banner and Daily Commercial News. 

 

January 2010 - Decision Committee Terms of Reference approved.

 

December 2009 - Committee directs CS&P Architects to proceed to Design Development and Contract Documents.

 

December 15, 2009 - Report to Council summarizing public comments received at Public Open House on November 30, 2009.  Please note a copy of the Report is available here!

 

November 30, 2009 -A Stakeholders Meeting and a Public Open House were held in order for CS & P Architects to present the schematic design drawings to date.  Also Dalton Company invited any trade vendors to submit their names to be put on list for construction suppliers.  Public Comments were also received.

October 20, 2009 Simcoe Muskoka YMCA will be the provider of services for the new Aquatic Facility & Fitness Centre.  Resolution passed at Committee of the Whole meeting.

June 2009 - Building Canada Fund Approval. Funding Partners:  Government of Canada (Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure), Government of Ontario (Ministry of Agriculture, Food & Rural Affairs), Town of Gravenhurst. 

September 2009 - C S & P Architects named as the Lead Architects for the Project,  Maureen O’Shaughnessy and Craig Goodman; Project Architects  

October 2009 - The Dalton Company named as the Construction Management Company  

October 2009 - Simcoe Muskoka YMCA named as the Service Provider (Operators) of the
Aquatic/Fitness and Wellness Centre of the Project 
 

October 2009 - The Building Committee named as the Advisory Group providing input into
the design of the project. 
 

October 2009 - The Building Committee’s Term of Reference approved.

 

November 2009 – Stakeholders Meeting and Public Open House held.

 

December 2009 - CS&P Architects directed to proceed to Design  Development and contract
document state.

 

January 2010 - Decision Committee Terms of Reference approved.

 

February 2010 - Pre-qualification package for sub trades and services closes on February 10, 2010.

Open House @ Gravenhurst Legion - Saturday May 29, 2010- view design to date and  to ask questions of
staff, architects and construction management team.

 

June 2010 - Site servicing, install dewatering system

 

July 2010 - Formwork pool side

 

August 2010 - Foundation work - pool side, masonry walls and steel erection - arena side

 

September 2010 - Council accepts in principal, an agreement with Simcoe Muskoka YMCA
to operate the new pool side and conditioning rooms.

 

June 2011 - Construction completed in Phase 1, Arena Side.

 

July 2011 - Phase 1 Occupancy permit received.
