New strategic business plan for Gravenhurst Opera House

The Gravenhurst Opera House, a gem in the downtown core, has a new strategic business plan that will guide operations for the next five years.

Town council approved the plan at its meeting Tuesday afternoon.

“The opera house is a valuable part of Gravenhurst – economically, socially, and culturally,” Mayor Heidi Lorenz said. “This new plan will help us make the best decisions for the opera house as we move forward.”

Gravenhurst observing ‘No Mow May’

The Town of Gravenhurst is asking residents to hold off mowing their lawns in May.

The request is part of the ‘No Mow May’ initiative, which takes place in various communities across Ontario and elsewhere.

The intent of the month-long campaign is to allow grass and wildflowers a chance to flourish, providing bees and other pollinators a good source of nutrition.

“No Mow May is a great opportunity for all of us to play a small part in helping our environment,” Mayor Heidi Lorenz said.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) says a flood warning is in effect for the area until April 21.

Fire Danger Rating - HIGH - April 13, 2023

The Muskoka Forest Fire Danger Rating has been elevated to high.

Areas without snow have rapidly dried and the trend will continue with forecasted weather. Some Muskoka fire departments have already responded to out-of-control grass fires this week. A small fire can become a large one within minutes in these conditions.
