Muskoka Forest Fire Danger Rating - May 9, 2022

The Muskoka Fire Chiefs have now set the Fire Danger Rating for MUSKOKA to HIGH.

Extreme caution must be taken with all open flames. Small fires are permitted in most rural areas of Muskoka keeping in mind that NO DAYTIME BURNING is allowed. You must have adequate tools and water to extinguish the fire if the need arises and you must be with your fire at all times. Ensure any campfires are fully extinguished. Consult with your local municipality for outdoor burning regulations.

Half-Load Restrictions to be Lifted Monday May 16th

Gravenhurst, ON – As the annual spring thaw period (March to May) gradually comes to an end, municipalities in the District of Muskoka will be lifting ‘half-load’ or ‘reduced/seasonal load’ restrictions on many of its roadways. Effective Monday, May 16, at 12:01 a.m., half-load restrictions will be lifted in the Town of Gravenhurst. 

Vehicle operators are reminded that the purpose of seasonal load restrictions is to protect the road and road base from damage caused by heavy vehicle wheel loads...

Spring Maintenance for Hamlet Swing Bridge

PETERBOROUGH, ONTARIO, May 4, 2022 – On Tuesday, May 10, 2022 starting at 9:30 am, Parks Canada will be conducting spring maintenance at the Hamlet Swing Bridge, in preparation for the 2022 navigation season. This includes preventative maintenance tasks like washing and greasing as well as a number of test swings.

In addition to several normal bridge swings, longer test swings will also take place, resulting in temporary closures of about 10 to 15 minutes each.

Some last minute thoughts to being prepared for an emergency.  Be it a freezing rain storm, prolonged hydro outage or flood keeping you isolated.

The Town of Gravenhurst urges every homeowner to gather up an put together a basic Emergency Kit which includes:

  • Two litres of water per person/per day
  • Canned food, energy bar and dried food (replace once a year).
  • Manual operated can opener
  • Battery powered flashlight and radio (including extra batteries).
  • First Aid Kit.
  • Candles with sturdy containers...
