COVID-19 UPDATE FOR OCTOBER 30th, 2020

Gravenhurst, ON –  Halloween is a time for fun and a day that many area children look forward to, but this year is especially different. While traditional trick or treating is not recommended by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU), there are some very helpful safety tips for all to participate as safely as possible including incorporating a face mask into costumes and only going out with members of your direct household .  The Gravenhurst Fire Department also shares some helpful advice around Halloween costumes, safety around open flames and decorating homes through their Twitter page.

On November 1st, clocks move back an hour at 2:00 a.m. This is a good time for everyone to check their batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and a reminder of Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week ahead. It is also very important for those who may be extending their stay in Muskoka throughout the fall and winter seasons to be aware of your changing surroundings and make appropriate preparations for winter, this may include gaining a better understanding of what resources are available to you and what resources may not be.

The Royal Canadian Legion: Harry Wray Branch #302 has officially cancelled their public Remembrance Day ceremony due to COVID-19. A private invitation-only event will be held. The Legion asks that you observe a moment of silence within your social circle on November 11th.

The Town’s Recreation Division is looking ahead to decorating the holiday season with a number of new holiday themed programs and workshops. Registration and further information can be found through the following link. Limited spaces are available.

With the announcement of one new COVID-19 case in Gravenhurst this week, the Town, in cooperation with the SMDHU, reminds everyone to maintain a high level of vigilance. Continue to wear face coverings, practice rigorous hand hygiene, and stay within your own social circles. We are all in this together and will get through this together! The Town supports Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare’s pledge and challenge to #stopthespread and encourages everyone to do this in your own unique and meaningful way!
