Two Button Designs Selected to Mark 50th Winter Carnival Celebration

Gravenhurst, ON - The Gravenhurst Winter Carnival Committee has been very busy preparing for the upcoming 2020 Winter Carnival this February with ongoing efforts including; reviewing new ideas and events, recruiting new volunteers and deciding on the design for the 50th Winter Carnival celebration button.

“With this year being a very special celebration year for Winter Carnival in Gravenhurst, we have decided on two special edition button designs,” explained Marc Mantha, Winter Carnival Committee member during his deputation to Council; giving Mayor Paul Kelly the distinct honour of announcing the design winners to Council and guests yesterday.

“It is my pleasure to announce Parker Tucker and Jack MacBrien as this year’s Winter Carnival button design winners.  Your creativity captures the essence of what Winter Carnival is all about in Gravenhurst. We can’t wait for this year’s celebration, and we will wear your designs proudly,” said the Mayor.

“The Winter Carnival Button has become a long-time tradition in Gravenhurst, not only is it your entry into the Carnival, but the design has become somewhat of a historic collector’s item over the years,” explains Shawna Patterson, manager of Recreation. “Again this year we opened our design contest up to area schools to harness the creativity of Gravenhurst students. “We’re really pleased with what came back to the Committee and congratulate Parker and Jack for their work.”

The 2020 Winter Carnival Button designs are currently in production and will be available for sale in the coming weeks. The $5.00 cost of a button helps support the ongoing operations of the annual event. This year’s Gravenhurst Winter Carnival takes place February 14th to the 17th, with events focused in the downtown and Gull Lake area, as well as activities scheduled at Muskoka Wharf.

The Gravenhurst Winter Carnival is powered by over 100 volunteers, community collaborations and generous sponsors. To learn more about volunteering opportunities or sponsorship, please call the Recreation Division at 705-687-6774.
