Hazardous Winter Storm Forecasted for Weekend

Exercise Personal Preparedness

Gravenhurst, ON – Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement with the potential for significant precipitation amounts this weekend.  A combination of rain, freezing rain, ice pellets and snow is expected. Localized flooding in some areas of the municipality is possible especially near moving water and low-lying areas. “Public works staff will be monitoring road networks throughout the weekend,” says Andrew Stacey, director of infrastructure.  “If you encounter closed roads due to dangerous conditions, please abide by all detour signage,” added Stacey.

The Town of Gravenhurst is encouraging residents and visitors to be extremely diligent when venturing out near water and streams as well as travelling along potential icy roadways.  “With the forecasted storm and freezing rain, travel plans should be adjusted,” explains Todd Clapp, community emergency management coordinator. “Residents and visitors should also be prepared for the potential of lengthy power outages and ensure generators are fueled up and ready, 72 hour emergency kits stocked with all required supplies and smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in working condition”.
