District Launches Engagement Sessions and Online Survey to Inform Waste Management Strategy for Muskoka

In partnership with Area Municipalities, the District of Muskoka is developing a Waste Management Strategy to explore options to reduce the amount of waste produced in the region.  Some activities being considered include enhanced reduction, reusing, recycling, and composting programs.   Residents are encouraged to provide suggestions and share their ideas through scheduled Community Consultation Sessions and an online “Waste Matters” survey.

“The District is always looking at ways to divert more material, including recyclables, from ending up in the landfill – while ensuring that the level and cost of waste management services are satisfactory and reasonable,” said Fred Jahn, Commissioner of Engineering and Public Works.   “Feedback and ideas from the community are critical to ensure that the strategy is successful and has the impact needed to protect Muskoka’s natural environment.”

The schedule of Community Consultation Sessions began this week and continues until September 12, 2019.  The sessions will provide detailed information on our current waste management system and provide opportunity to give feedback on various alternatives for the future.  View the full schedule of Community Consultation Sessions.

Another option for the public to provide input is through an online survey.  Please visit https://www.engagemuskoka.ca/waste-management-strategy and complete the "Waste Matters" survey by October 11, 2019.
