COVID-19 UPDATE FOR JULY 31st, 2020

Gravenhurst, ON – The Civic Holiday has arrived in Muskoka, and as we enjoy a long weekend, we should be reminded that this is a critical time to be extra diligent and follow all the health and safety guidelines outlined by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit; including staying in your limited social bubbles, wearing face masks in all business/indoor settings, hand sanitizing, avoiding large groups of people, and properly physically distancing.

“Gravenhurst will be very busy this weekend with increased traffic coming to Muskoka, as well very busy along our waterways too. We ask that everyone keeps safety top of mind. This includes safe boating, safe use of beaches, and taking all appropriate COVID-19 precautions when travelling throughout our community. Gravenhurst has experienced very limited cases of COVID-19 and we wish to maintain this with everyone’s help,” said Mayor Paul Kelly. The Town urges the public to pay attention to overcrowding and maintain safe distancing at all public beaches. A full list of COVID-19 Beach Safety protocols is posted on locations as well available on the Town’s website.

The OPP, Bylaw Officers and other Town staff will be patrolling public areas with the view to ensuring that everyone is following prescribed safety requirements.  Visitors and residents alike should be reminded that large scale violation of these requirements such as gatherings that do not allow for safe distancing, could result in targeted closures.

Consistent with Phase 3 opening of public spaces, the following amenities are will open effective immediately:

  • Gravenhurst Lion’s Pavilion – 830 Bay St.
  • Gull Lake Rotary Park Pavilion – 405 Brock St.
  • Playground Structures
    • Gull Lake Rotary Park – 405 Brock St.
    • Lookout Park – 500 George St.
    • Kinsmen Park – 1300 Muskoka Rd. S.
    • Muskoka Bay Park – 700 Muskoka Rd. 169
    • Segwun Play Structure at Splash Pad – 1111 Bay St.

All trails remain open in Gravenhurst, though trail-goers must continue to adhere to physical distancing requirements. All Town boat launches, as well as public and private docks, at the Muskoka Wharf are open, with daily and seasonal boat slip rental opportunities still available. Please contact our Public Works Division by email for more information on dock slip availability at

As a reminder, the Town’s public washrooms remain closed due to reduced municipal resources and recent adjustments to service delivery. Temporary portable toilets have been placed at each of the following public areas: Gull Lake Rotary Park, Gravenhurst Lions Pavilion, Muskoka Wharf Sports Field Pavilion, Muskoka Bay Park, Muskoka Beach Park and the off-leash Dog Park. These sites are fully equipped with sanitary supplies and will be cleaned on a daily basis by contracted services.

Ball diamonds in the Town will continue to be closed for the balance of the summer in order to begin or finish capital refurbishment projects, including new lighting, irrigation system, and new sod and play surfaces in the infield and outfields. Lorne Beach Park will also remain closed for swimming this season for safety due to ongoing maintenance necessary to repair shoreline retaining walls.

With the increased traffic to Gravenhurst and the various waterfront locations, the public is asked to be mindful of the Town’s limited resources and take home their garbage if the public receptacles are full. We all play an important role in keeping our community clean.

“We are extremely pleased to see our beloved Wenonah II back on the waters of Lake Muskoka and providing scenic cruises. Along with the Segwun, these boats are true iconic symbols of our community. I am happy to share that Muskoka Steamship cruises and the Muskoka Discovery Centre are opening on Saturday August 1st, with enhanced safety protocols and limited capacity,” said the Mayor.   Please visit them online for further details at

Town Offices will be fully closed on Monday August 3rd for the Civic Holiday. Staff will continue to provide full services through phone and email upon return Tuesday August 4th at 8:00 a.m. The Town’s drop-box is available for direct delivery to the various departments.
