Federal Order Restricting Vessel Navigation in Muskoka

MEDIA VIA: OPP Central Region Headquarters                                           DATE: May 15, 2019

(Muskoka Region, ON) -  On April 30, 2019, Transport Canada issued an interim order prohibiting navigation on certain bodies of water within the Region of Muskoka.

Navigation was prohibited as follows:

  • Lake Muskoka
  • North and South Branches of the Muskoka River
  • Moon River

-UPDATE-

Yesterday May 14, 2019 Transport Canada lifted the order restricting navigation in the Muskoka Region including all of the waterways listed above.

Although the restriction to navigation has been rescinded, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are advising the waterways affected by the flood conditions continue to have hidden dangers. Fast moving water and unexpected debris floating on top of and just under the surface of the water will continue pose serious risk to boaters.

If you plan utilizing pleasure craft in the Muskoka Region this coming long weekend, please use extra caution and wear your lifejacket.

The Ontario Provincial Police is committed to public safety, delivering proactive and innovative policing in partnership with our communities.
