Gravenhurst, ON – Tentative dates for the safe re-opening of select Town facilities has been established as the Town of Gravenhurst prepares to gradually reintroduce in-person delivery of municipal services to the community since the closure of all Town facilities to public access began on March 17.

“When public access returns to our facilities in September, it will look and feel very different. Structured protocols and screening will be in place, building aesthetics and customer service counters will take full consideration of the public’s and staff’s health and safety in the ongoing effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19,” said Glen Davies, Chief Administrative Officer. “In most instances, public access will be available on an appointment only basis and where services that can continue to be provided remotely/virtually, will be for the foreseeable future,” he added.

The following dates have been established for the return to limited public access:

September 15, 2020 - Graeme Murray Arena and Centennial Centre Administrative Office only.

Ice allocation will be minimal to start in light of enhanced cleaning requirements and usage guidelines, and will begin with ice rentals to approved sports organizations that have appropriate COVID-19 procedures and insurance coverage in place. Recreational programming from the Town will remain on hold, with the exception of virtual programming.

  • September 22, 2020 – Gravenhurst Municipal Office (By appointment only)
  • September 22, 2020 – Gravenhurst Fire Hall Station #1 (By appointment only, pre-screening at door)
  • September 28, 2020 – Gravenhurst Public Library (By appointment only)
  • January 2021 – Gravenhurst Opera House

The opening dates for the Gravenhurst YMCA and Centennial Centre pool has yet to be determined.

Members of the public will be expected to adhere to current guidelines established by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit and Town policy (i.e. maintaining physical distance, hand washing/sanitizing and wearing a protective face mask/face covering indoors at all times).

A fifth formal status report to Council will be provided at the September 15, 2020 Committee of the Whole meeting which will remain electronic at this time and viewable at Additional details will be forthcoming.
