Council Approves Updated Development Charges By-law
Gravenhurst, ON – The Town of Gravenhurst has approved a new development charges by-law. The updated by-law will apply to all new residential development and commercial accommodation within Gravenhurst.
The by-law approved will include a phased-in implementation that will gradually bring Gravenhurst rates up to comparative development charge rates of Bracebridge and Huntsville over a five-year period carrying through to the end of 2024. Commercial and industrial development charges will remain at zero.
Municipal-wide development charges are levied against new development to pay for the increased capital costs related to the provision of such municipal services as library, parks and recreation, general government, municipal parking, fire protection and services related to a highway (public works and roads and related services).
The development charges imposed under the by-law will come into effect on January 1, 2020. Copies of the complete Development Charge by-law are available at Gravenhurst Town Office for examination during regular business and on the website at
