Gravenhurst, ON – The Labour Day weekend is upon us, and for many, the end of summer holidays. While we take in one final long weekend of summer, it continues to be important to practise physical distancing, to follow mask/face covering protocol, and maintain excellent hand hygiene to protect yourself and others around you from the spread of COVID-19.

The presence of By-law Officers will continue to be prevalent in the Town’s beaches and parks to ensure that the public are not overcrowding these spaces and abiding by Town regulations. In addition to regular checks from By-law Officers, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have committed to enhanced patrols. “We want people to be safe and enjoy our spaces, but we ask for continued respect and vigilance,” said Mayor Paul Kelly. “If you see By-laws being disregarded or witness acts of vandalism, please record it through or call the police,” said the Mayor. “Additionally, garbage collection has been doubled in our parks and beaches. However, if a garbage can is full, please don’t leave your refuse behind, take it with you.”

The Town’s Parks Division is pleased to inform the public that the Ungerman Gateway Park, Lorne St. Beach is now open. Critical unplanned repairs were made to the shoreline retaining walls, as well as enhancements to the drainage. Beach goers can expect a fresh bed of sand and new sod to help beautify the beach. We thank the public for their patience and understanding while the beach was closed.

While Town Staff continue to provide service to the community by phone and email, new measures are in place for re-opening to public access (by appointment only), which has been scheduled for Monday, September 28th (only for marriage licenses and commissioning initially). The public will be required to complete a self screening document and provide detailed contact information prior to conducting any business, in addition to wearing a mask at all times while inside Town facilities. Further information will be made available soon.

As a reminder, the central COVID-19 Assessment Centre is now located in Bracebridge at the Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare at 75 Ann Street. Testing is by appointment only, Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling the Muskoka Assessment Centre line at 1-888-383-7009.
