wharf plan cover of document

The plan to revitalize the Muskoka Wharf has been completed. The plan includes an introduction to the Wharf, an overview of the data and key findings from the consultation process, and a comprehensive plan which includes a vision, mission, goals, market position, rationale, and summary of strategic actions. The plan includes 7 goals which are supported by 13 objectives. You can find a full copy of the report here

The draft plan was completed in March but the final stages of consultation and endorsement were delayed as staff and Council adjusted their priorities in order to respond to the pandemic emergency.

Launch Event

Over 120 people attended the project launch event held on September 11th at the Residence Inn by Marriott. Leslie Fournier and Gregg McLachlan from Your Town Rising shared some great ideas for creative placemaking as well as ways to amp up word-of-mouth in the social media era.

Those in attendance were also invited to provide input by using the community chalkboards to complete the phrase "I love the Wharf because..." and to share ideas for how it might be improved by writing a "postcard from the future."

Refreshments were generously provided by Blue Willow Tea Shop, Boston Pizza, Dock of the Bay, and Muskobilly's.

Project Background

The Town of Gravenhurst is leading an eight-month project to develop a plan to outline potential goals and strategic actions to revitalize the Muskoka Wharf.

Located on 89 acres of waterfront and boasting over 2000 feet of public boardwalk, the Muskoka Wharf is a mixed-use development combining retail, food service and accommodation. The site is anchored on either end by the Muskoka Steamships & Discovery Centre and hosts many annual festivals and events.

With support from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs through the Rural Economic Development (RED) program, a Wharf Revitalization Coordinator joined the Town’s Economic Development team in July.
