Holds and Requests

To place holds on library items you will need your library card.

How do I place a hold on library items?

  • A hold is a request for certain items in the library.
  • You must have a valid library card to place a hold.
  • You can place a hold in person, by phone or by using your online account.
  • When your item becomes available, a library staff member will phone or email you.
  • Once we have notified you, you have 4 days to come to the library and pick up the item.

How do I place a hold using my account online?

  • Find the item you would like using the online catalogue.
  • From the details page of the item you want, select “Request Item”.
  • Type in your entire 14 digit library card number.
  • Type in your PIN (the last 4 digits of your phone number).
  • Click “Place hold” on the request confirmation page.
  • Choose return to searching or logout and return.
  • We will phone or email you when the item is available.

How do I cancel a hold using my account online?

  • Select the “My Account” tab at the top of the page from the online catalogue.
  • Type in your entire 14 digit library card number.
  • Type in your PIN (the last 4 digits of your phone number).
  • Click on the “Holds” tab at the top of the page.
  • Select the item you would like to delete.
  • Click “Cancel Request”.

If a book or other item is not available at the Gravenhurst Library, is it possible to get it?

Yes! The Library is part of the province-wide interlibrary loan service and we can request items from other library systems in and outside of Ontario. Please fill out this form or go to our request an item page to find our more about interlibrary loans.
