Having Fun in Gravenhurst Without Breaking the Bank

Budget Summer (1)

Here’s the thing…not every vacation, getaway or day-trip needs to be ultra-extravagant. Sometimes you just want to get away, and do it on the cheap, so you don’t cringe when you look at your bank account on Monday morning.

Want to make your friends envious of your lavish Muskoka mid-week getaway, but you don’t want to spend a ton of money? We got you. Here’s a few fun things for you to do in Gravenhurst and save some pennies in the process.

Head out to The Tree Museum and see some local artists’ work. Seeing cool sculptures placed throughout a forested landscape is so unique and so fun. The best thing about this activity… it is completely free! Bring a camera, bring some water, go on the short hike to the museum, take some pictures, admire the artwork and enjoy this free activity.

Tree Museum Cost: $0

The Gravenhurst Farmers’ Market is something you definitely won’t want to miss. This is the perfect place to check out cool local products, have fun and find affordable treasures. Take a walk through all the booths at the Farmer’s Market; there’s fresh produce, art, jewelry, baked goods, samples and so much more! You can’t beat window shopping outdoors.

Gravenhurst Farmers’ Market Cost: $0 (or if you end up finding something you really want, the price of that!)

You can’t visit Muskoka without being amazed by its natural beauty. Now is the perfect time to take advantage of this iconic scenery by getting outside. Whether you want to go try out the Hahne Farm Trail in Gravenhurst or in the surrounding area, (there are so many – you can’t go wrong), go for a walk around town, hang out in a Gull Lake Park, soak up some sun at Muskoka Beach Park, head out for a bike ride or find a spot to watch a famous Lake Muskoka sunset. There are so many options for you and your friends and family to have fun, be awestruck by the natural beauty and not spend a dime. You’re getting the traditional Muskoka experience, without breaking the bank. Isn’t that what we all want?

If you want to check out some more information on more of Gravenhurst’s beaches, parks and trails, we’ve got the place for you.

Lake Muskoka Sunset Cost: Priceless (But actually, $0)

Star gazing…you can do this from a park, from a beach or even from your car. Just take a look up at the sky and see how it is lit up with stars. But, Muskoka is home to something really special, the Torrance Barrens Dark-Sky Preserve. It is a permanent site of (almost) 5000 acres of land separated from light pollution that provides stunning views of the night sky. Take a short drive to the Torrance Barrens to see the sky light up and blow your mind.

Torrance Barrens Dark-Sky Preserve Cost: Absolutely Free.

Get your blood pumping and grab from fresh air, but don’t forget your helmet because you’re going to need it! Get out and go mountain biking. There are a couple nearby trails that you can go on, that are free and fun. Check out the BLANK trails. They are both under 20 minutes away, but so worth the drive.

If you didn’t plan on biking, but want to check it out. Try heading over to The Bike Shop for some bike rentals for your adventure.

Mountain Biking Trails Cost: Zero. Dollars. (Really, the cost of gas to get there)

Bonus tips: Check out the Independent Grocer for snacks, consider supporting small businesses by grabbing an affordable take-out lunch from Relish or the Butcher’s Daughters … and with all the cash you will save on this trip, you should definitely treat yourself to one meal out! Depends what you’re looking for, but there are many take out options for enjoying a meal from a Gravenhurst restaurant right now! (Click link to see list of the restaurants?)

Choosing Gravenhurst for your classic Muskoka summer weekend doesn’t have to be expensive to be fun. There are so many free and affordable things to do when you want to get away with friends and family, save money and still have a great time.
