Town advances strategic planning exercise

Gravenhurst town council is moving ahead with the creation of a new strategic plan for the municipality.

“This is an exciting opportunity,” Mayor Heidi Lorenz said. “Council looks forward to supplying input during the plan’s development. A community engagement process, plus contributions from town staff, will also play an important part in crafting the plan.”

On Tuesday, March 21, council authorized chief administrative officer Scott Lucas to negotiate and finalize a single source contract with Strategy Corp for the creation of the new plan.

Council approved single sourcing the firm to expedite the start of the project.

“This is a critical exercise in terms of setting vision and actions for the corporation for the foreseeable future,” Lucas said, noting council approved the project as part of the 2023 capital budget. “Strategic planning exercises are typically facilitated by a consulting firm with expertise in the area, and in the case of the Town of Gravenhurst, in the absence of an endorsed plan, time is of the essence to begin establishing council priorities.”

The town has a historic professional relationship with Strategy Corp, a respected public affairs, strategic communications, and management consulting firm.

The organization conducted the District of Muskoka’s service delivery review in 2014 and assisted the previous term of Gravenhurst town council by confirming its strategic direction and helping with council orientation.

“Given the past positive relationship with Strategy Corp, the company’s intimate knowledge of the area and the town’s governance structure, we look forward to collaborating with the firm once again,” Lucas said.

The town expects to finalize a contract with Strategy Corp in the days ahead, allowing work to start on the creation of the plan.
