Fire Chief Message

Fire Chief Brassard Speaking at PodiumThank you for visiting our website. I am happy to give you an overview of how our department works and the services that we offer.

Our staff is dedicated to the protection of our community. We try to provide cost effective fire protection but the sad truth is when an emergency happens much of the damage is already done, the injuries have happened and in the worst cases, the fatalities have occurred before we are even called. For this reason, fire prevention and emergency response are a very important part of our services.

Prevention programs include public education, fire safety inspections, Fire Code enforcement, emergency planning and new building plans review. The public education programs provide information on how to protect yourself, your home, your family, your co-workers and your community. Learn Not to Burn, Older and Wiser, and TAPP-C are some of the programs used by our prevention staff. We also provide portable fire extinguisher training and training on many other safety topics.

Emergency response includes firefighting, vehicle extrication, water and ice rescue, initial response to hazardous materials incidents and emergency incident management. We rely on part-time or volunteer firefighters for many of our services however five full-time staff assist with the training, prevention and administrative duties.

Our part-time firefighters are well trained and dedicated to serving you. They are your neighbours. They are nurses, mechanics, carpenters, electricians, boat builders, business owners, homemakers and truck drivers. They are committed to protecting our community. If you have ever considered becoming a member of our department, I encourage you to look at our recruiting section, learn all you can about what we do and come and talk with us. Do you have what it takes?

I ask you to make a commitment to the safety of your family. Make sure you have working smoke alarms on every level of your home and talk with your family about what to do if there is a fire or other emergency in your home.
