Gravenhurst Youth Council

The Gravenhurst Youth Council is a community Subcommittee of Council that provides information on subjects that affect the youth of the town. All meetings are open to the public.

Enrollment/Application

Please fill out the attached Application Form for The Gravenhurst Youth Council Membership by 4:00 PM, Wednesday September 11, 2019. If you are over the age of 18, a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Reference Check is required for appointment and must be attached to application. Applications should be delivered to Gravenhurst Town Office, 3-5 Pineridge Gate, P1P 1Z3.

If required by the police authority, a letter is available that includes a description of the Youth Council in order to process a Vulnerable Sector Check request.

Mandate, Vision & Primary Role

Mandate: is to provide a positive advocacy committee of Gravenhurst youth to advise Council on issues impacting the youth of the municipality including special events and community programs, leadership, culture of the municipality, issues, challenges and needs.

Vision: to provide leadership opportunities, access to local government and encourage connections with applicable youth stakeholders groups. 

Primary Role: be responsible for advising Council on matters impacting the youth of the community including but not limited to, community and special events, connections with stakeholders, needs, challenges and / or issues.  Advocating for a platform for their fellow youth within the community on advocacy issues within the jurisdiction of the municipality (both upper and lower tier).

Terms of Reference outlines the purpose, structure, operating rules, and define the various roles of membership within a Subcommittee.

The Terms are jointly developed and approved by Council, and can change as the nature of the work of Council evolves.

Membership

Committee membership is made up of local community stakeholder liaisons, youth citizen members, affiliate members, Council members and staff liaison:

  • Paul Kelly, Mayor
  • Steven Klinck, Council Representative
  • Shawna Patterson, Manager of Recreation Services (Staff Liaison)
