Can you vote in the Gravenhurst municipal election?
Do you know if you can vote in the Gravenhurst municipal election this fall?
“There are a lot of misconceptions about who can participate in the election as municipal elections are different than federal and provincial elections,” Director of Legislative Services Kayla Thibeault said. “Our hope is people will review the voter eligibility requirements and that as many eligible electors as possible will vote.”
The core requirements to vote are as follows:
-
You must be a Canadian citizen.
-
You must be at least 18 years old.
-
You must not be prohibited from voting by law.
Additionally, you must qualify to vote in one of the following ways:
-
You live in the municipality. This includes people who own property, rent, live in shared accommodation, or have no fixed address.
-
You own or rent property in the municipality but live elsewhere.
-
Your spouse owns or rents property in Gravenhurst.
-
Students living away from home can vote in the Gravenhurst municipal election. They can also participate in the municipal election where they attend post-secondary studies.
To participate in the municipal election, you must be on the voters’ list. You can check if you are on the list today by visiting the Elections Ontario website.
To check your school support designation, visit the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation website (MPAC). The MPAC site also allows you to update your information. Be sure to check and confirm your schoolboard support before June 1.
Voters in the Town of Gravenhurst will be able to cast their ballot by telephone or the internet.
To cast a ballot, eligible voters will need their Voter Information Letter/PIN. These will be mailed in late September. However, you must be on the voters’ list to receive your Voter Information Letter.
The letter provides all the instructions that voters will need to securely cast their ballot.
Election day is Oct. 26, 2026.
Eligible voters will choose a new council and their school board representation.
