New heritage panels at Muskoka Wharf

The Town of Gravenhurst is proud to announce that a series of eight heritage-themed panels are now on display at the iconic Muskoka Wharf.

“These panels tell the story of the wharf through written word, historic photographs, and contemporary pictures,” Mayor Heidi Lorenz said. “The result is an engaging and thoughtful look at a beautiful and important part of our community.”

Spearheaded by the Municipal Heritage Committee, each panel explores a different aspect of the wharf’s rich history.

Boat building, lumber mills, the railway, and the steamship era are among the themes that people will learn about.

“Whether you are a visitor, a cottager, or an established resident, the panels offer a terrific way to discover the important role the wharf has played in the community over the years and continues to play,” said Amy Taylor, the town’s manager of economic development.

The town has placed the panels strategically along the boardwalk at the wharf. People can enjoy them while out for a walk, attending a community event, or checking out local businesses.

Join us for the official unveiling

The public is welcome to join council, heritage committee members, and town staff for the official unveiling of the panels at 2 p.m. on Aug. 28.
