New truck for Gravenhurst Fire Department
The Gravenhurst Fire Department will welcome a new pumper truck into its fleet later this month.
The department will host what’s called a push-in ceremony on Monday, Oct. 27, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at Fire Station 3, 1622 Barkway Rd.
Town council members will join firefighters for the event. Residents are welcome to attend.
“This new vehicle will play a valuable role in providing fire protection for our community. The department is grateful for this investment,” Fire Chief Jared Cayley said.
Mayor Heidi Lorenz said it is important the department has the resources it needs to properly serve the community.
“On a regular basis we see the meaningful and often dangerous work our firefighters perform. Having reliable equipment ensures firefighters can respond to emergencies when they arise.”
What is a push-in ceremony?
Years ago, firefighters pushed hand-drawn equipment and later horse-drawn steam engines into their stations. Modern firefighters continue the tradition by pushing new trucks into the hall.
About the new truck
The Rosenbauer Type 3 Pumper sits on an International chassis and was assembled in Lyons, S.D.
The $762,000 vehicle replaces a 2004 E-One International Pumper now at the end of its lifespan. The town’s asset management plan allows for the replacement of large frontline equipment every 20 years.
