Town now accepting nominations for 2026 Gravenhurst Built Heritage Awards

Nominations are now open for the Gravenhurst Built Heritage Awards.

“The awards are a terrific way to recognize buildings that are an important part of our story as a community,” said Lindsay Nelan, chair of the Town of Gravenhurst’s Municipal Heritage Committee.

Angela Ghikadis, a senior planner with the town and a staff liaison on the Municipal Heritage Committee, echoed Nelan’s comments.

“Over the years we have recognized a variety of properties, and we look forward to doing that again this year,” she said.

The Built Heritage Awards started in 2013 and since then more than 30 awards have been doled out.

Awards are given for one or more of the following criteria:

  • A recently completed restoration, renovation, or new construction

  • Materials, colour, and execution of the work are aesthetically pleasing

  • The design compliments other heritage structures in the neighbourhood or town

  • The work restores a building’s heritage features

  • The construction methodology and techniques are of good quality and craftsmanship

“Council is pleased to recognize deserving buildings in our community through this award program, and we are excited to see which properties receive kudos for 2026,” Mayor Heidi Lorenz said.

The Municipal Heritage Committee will review nominations and select award recipients. The town will provide special Built Heritage Award lawn signs for display at the winning properties.

Nomination forms are available on the town website

The deadline for submissions is Friday, May 29.
