Public Art & Placemaking

Muskoka Fall Photo Op

The Town of Gravenhurst, in collaboration with the Gravenhurst BIA Review Steering Committee invited artists and creatives to submit proposals for an original artwork celebrating Fall in Muskoka.

The selected design has been transformed into a large-scale 4 ft. x 8 ft. outdoor interactive photo-op installation in downtown Gravenhurst. It is located in Heritage Square in front of the Gravenhurst Opera House at 295 Muskoka Road South.

The temporary placemaking installation is intended to create a fun and visually engaging destination that celebrates the fall season, animates the downtown, and encourages residents and visitors to stop, interact, take photos and share their experience.

Congratulations to our selected artist Hanna Dykstra!

Artist Statement

I wanted to create a piece that captures everything I love about fall in Muskoka: the colour, the quiet moments, and the creatures and foliage that emerge before winter. We live in a community-oriented town, yet we often forget about the natural world right outside our doorstep. As you look at and interact with this piece, my hope is that you’ll slow down and notice the little details.
